Mon père
Bernard Monday a pris sa retraite en 1970 et resta à
Montréal, tout en continuant à fréquenter durant l'été sa propriété à
St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, village de la région de Lanaudière dont son ancêtre
irlandais (nommé Bernard Monday) a été un des fondateurs.
Mon père est décédé le 11 novembre 1972.

Mon père a aussi été opérateur radio sur les
bateaux durant plusieurs années, avant de devenir inspecteur radio. Je
pourrai faire une recherche la-dessus, mais, comme disent les Français : “
C’est pas évident “. J’essaierai quand même d’en trouver le + possible sur
ce sujet si cela a quelque intérêt pour le site.
Paul Larochelle, de Québec, opérateur entre
autres sur le brise-glace Ernest Lapointe, était un des amis de mon père.
J’ai vu qu’il était dans la liste, mais qu’il n’y a de lui ni photo ni
anecdote... Vous le verrez sur quelques-unes des photos que je viens de
vous envoyer. (voir album photo) J’ai aussi une photo de lui qu’il a
lui-même intitulée “ la patrouille en raquette “, lors d’une de ses
patrouille dans le cadre de son travail, justement. Je vous l’enverrai si
c’est d’intérêt pour le site.
Voici ci-dessous une anecdote concernant
notre père Bernard telle que racontée par mon frère Jacques Monday, ainsi
que des souvenirs du "bureau" tels que racontés mar mon frère Luc Monday.
Ces anecdotes d’enfants
illustrent un autre aspect de notre père au travail. Pour ma part, je
n’en ai pas d’aussi savoureuses.
Je vais
continuer a m’intéresser a votre fascinante mission de gardien de
l’histoire et ça me fera plaisir d’y contribuer encore avec les éléments
que je trouverai.

My
father Bernard Monday retired in 1970 and remained in Montreal while spending
some time at his summer retreat located at St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, a village in
the Lanaudière region, where one of the founders was his Irish ancestor also
named Bernard Monday.
My father passed away on 11 November 1972.

My father was also a
Radio Operator on ships during many years before he become a Radio
Inspector. I will do some research on this but, as the French say: "It is
not clear. Nevertheless, I will try to find as much information on that
subject if it is interesting for the site.
Paul
Larochelle of Quebec City was one of the operators on icebreaker Ernest
Lapointe and he was a friend of my father. I saw that he was listed in Roll
Call but there are no photos and no anecdotes on him. You will see him on a
few of the photos I just sent you (see photo album). I also have a photo of
him titled " Patrol on showshoes" which he took while on a patrol he carried
out at work. I will send you the photo for the website if you are
interested.

on our father Bernard as told by my brother Jacques Monday, as well as
souvenirs from the "office" as told by my brother Luc Monday.
These
anecdotes from our childhood show another aspect of our father at work. As
for me, I don't have any anecdotes as savoury as those.
I will continue to maintain an
interest in your fascinating mission as guardian of history and it will be
my pleasure to contribute again should I find new elements for the
website.
