It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing at home
this morning of Win Hartlin - VE1WIN - due to complications from pneumonia. Win
is going to be cremated and returned to Ontario to be with his wife. A service
for Win will take place Monday, March 27th at 1100 at Walkers Funeral Home on
the Herring Cove Road. You will recall that HARC honoured Win with the 2016 HARC
Radio Amateur of the Year award at our Christmas Dinner this past December.

It is with
great sadness that I heard about the passing of Winfield Hartlin yesterday. Win
served as a Radio Operator (RO) and as a Radio Inspector (RI) with the Federal
Department of Transport (DOT) and the Federal Department of Communications
(DOC). Many of those years were spent at the Acton Monitoring Station, west of
Toronto. He also worked in Wiarton as a RO in 1963/1964. Win retired in December
1979 after over 34 years of service. Please scroll down the page to see his

The Halifax Amateur Radio Club (HARC)
honoured Win Hartlin (VE1WIN) in December 2016 with a special “2016
Amateur of the Year” award for his long-standing and active support of the
Halifax Club.
Win has for many years participated in the
vast majority of HARC’s activities, including Field Day, the Down-East
Flea Market, the DX Forum, the MS Bike Rides and Walks. Win was also a
major generator of advertising revenue for the past three Maritime
Callbooks. Most recently, Win has been a regular feature at the new
“Wireless Room” at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, meeting and
greeting visitors from around the world.

Obituary
Winfield (Win) A. Hartlin

93, Halifax, passed away unexpectedly on
Monday, March 20, 2017. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the
late Alexander and Evelyn (Tyler) Hartlin.
Winfield will lovingly be remembered by his
daughter in-law, Diane Hartlin; sisters, Gloria Thornton and
Sandra (Ken) Cooper; sister in-law, Barbara Jollimore and
family; several nieces including special niece, Susan and
several nephews; fishing companion, Michael Davis. He was
predeceased by his wife, Edith; son, John.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert
Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax,
where a Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, March 27
at 11AM, from the funeral home chapel, with a reception to
follow. Interment will take place at a later date in Fergus,
Ontario.
Donations in Winfield’s memory may be made to
the Canadian Cancer Society.
